Please take a book found at the entrance of the church, fill it out, place it in envelope, and drop it in the collection basket. The traditional Easter parish “SVIACHENE” will be held on April 23, following the Divine Liturgy. We will celebrate only one (1) Divine Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. We will be running a raffle. If you would like to donate any items to be raffled, please bring them to our church hall on Sundays before our “Sviachene” or on Sunday May 1. Tickets are $30.00 for adults, $10.00 for youth from 12 to 18. Free for altar boys, and under 12. Also we ask you to donate cakes for desert. We trust that all parishioners will join this parish gathering and through their presence attest to cherishing in our hearts a love for one another which builds our PARISH.FAMILY. We will not sell tickets at the door.

Tantsi/Ukrainian Folk Dancing for older kids,6 and up, stated on Friday, February 10 with Stephanie Tomaszewsky, instructor and in partnership with Artistic Director Orlando Pagan and will be every Friday from 6:00 p.m. Any questions will be answered that night. FOOD DONATIONS: A container is in our church vestibule for non-perishable food. This collection will be taken twice per month. Father Iura will distribute the food to the Little Sisters of the Poor who have offered to help in the Ukrainian crisis. Thank you for your generosity and your support.

There will be pyrohy (varenyky-pierogis) for sale in the church hall as long as supplies last.

Panel discussion with Timothy Snyder and Konstantin Usov

Professor Timothy Snyder and Deputy Mayor of Kyiv Konstantin Usov will have a discussion moderated by Professor Marci Shore.

The panel is hosted by Ukraine House at Yale and sponsored by Jackson School of Global Affairs and the European Studies Council at the MacMillan Center.

Timothy Snyder is the Richard C. Levin Professor of History at Yale University, specializing in the modern history of Central and Eastern Europe, and an ambassador for the UNITED24 platform initiated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Konstantin Usov is the Deputy Mayor of Kyiv who was in the capital during the invasion’s onset and was responsible for all transportation and evacuation of civilians in Kyiv’s vicinity, including Irpin and Bucha.

Marci Shore is an Associate Professor of History at Yale University, where she specializes in European cultural and intellectual history. Professor Shore is the author of The Ukrainian Night: An Intimate History of Revolution and The Taste of Ashes: The Afterlife of Totalitarianism.

The Lviv Symphony Orchestra is currently touring in the U.S. On Monday, February 13th TOMORROW, at 7:30 p.m. this renowned orchestra will perform at the Jorgensen Center at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and will feature violinist Solomia Ivakhiv. Artist of Ukraine, and Head of Strings in the music department at UCONN. The program will feature works by Ukrainian composer Evhen Stankovych and Ludwig van Beethoven. Flyers are available in the vestibule. Visit: https://jorgensen.uconn.edu

On Friday, February 24, at 6:00 p.m. we will have a service of prayer (Moleben to the Mother of God and Panachyda) commemorating the Ukrainian War. Our Patriarch His Beatitude Sviatoslav declare February 24 Day of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. It is important we gather in prayer for those who have sacrificed their lives and those who experience the negative and disastrous effects of the War: physical, psychological and spiritual wounds, poverty, hunger, homelessness.

Tantsi —Ukrainian Folk Dancing for older kids, 6 and up, has started. Stephanie Tomaszewsky, is the instructor working in partnership with Artistic Director Orlando Pagan. Any questions will be answered that night. Please contact Halia Lodynsky by text if you have any questions at 203-494-6278.

Benedict XVI buried

“The foundation of the world is love.” – Pope Benedict XVI

The coffin of the late Pope Benedict XVI is placed in its final resting place in the grottos of St. Peter’s Basilica. The cypress coffin is placed inside a zinc coffin which is placed inside an oak coffin and then buried.

Preparation for Theophany

Eve of Theophany on January 5th

In preparation for the Feast of the Theophany of Our Lord, the Eve of the Feast, which is Thursday, January 5th, is a day of fasting/strict abstinence for all Byzantine Catholics.

All feasts have a period of time of preparation which calls us to prayer with fasting and/abstinence.

Great Compline will be prayed on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in Church. Join us.

Schedule for January 7, Christmas according to the Julian Calendar: 9:50 a.m. —Great Compline with Lytia AND at 10:30 a.m. the Divine Liturgy.

Our parish will be preparing a Prosphora, a traditional Ukrainian Christmas meal on Sunday, January 15, 2023 after the Divine Liturgy that will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tickets are $30.00 for adults, $10.00 for youth from 14 to 18. Free for children Ridna Shkola and altar boys. Luba Dubno, Margaret Maybury and Svitlana Nakonechnyj are selling tickets. We will be running a raffle. No tickets will be sale at the door.

Children aged 8-12 will be accepted to the School. The nursery school has 3 groups as follows: ages 2-3 years of age – the youngest group; ages 3-5 years of age –the middle group; ages 5-6 years of age –preschool/ oldest group. This year we plan to offer Ukrainian dance instruction under the director of Mr. Orlando Pagan for children 7 years and older. Details noted in the bulletin note just above.
