SISTERS SERVANTS OF MARY IMMACULATE invites you to the 64th Holy Dormition Pilgrimage on August 11-12. Theme “MARY, OUR MODEL OF PRAYER: Do Whatever He Tells You,” with His Beatitude Patriarch SVIATOSLAV (Shevchuk) and bishops of the Ukrainian and Byzantine (Ruthenian) Catholic Churches in the United States. Our special guests will be: His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York and Sister Sofija Lebedowicz, SSMI, Superior General.

The Niagara Frontier Council will be hosting the 79th Annual Convention of the League of Ukrainian Catholics on October 5-7, 2018 at the Hyatt Place Hotel in Amherst, NY. This year we celebrate the 85th Anniversary of the founding of the League of Ukrainian Catholics in Chicago in 1933. We hope you will be with us at this special anniversary in some way. Either join us at the Convention, or at your homes in prayer especially on Sunday, October 7 when we will be streaming Liturgy from St. Nicholas in Buffalo at 10:30 AM. St. Gianna Center needs your help! The Center which assists at-risk pregnant women need diapers sized 3, 4, 5. Your donation would be greatly appreciated. A box is left at the front door of the church.

PARISH HALL BAZAAR: The Knights of Columbus will sponsoring a Parish Bazaar/tag sale scheduled for the weekend of August 25-26. This two-day event will enable parishioners to sell off their un-needed, surplus belongings. Parishioners have several choices as how to do this. 1) Rent a table for the weekend for $20.00, sell whatever you want for what you want. 2) Donate the items. The Knights of Columbus members will sell the items. Larger items will be considered for consignment. The Knight of Columbus will run the kitchen and sell food. A simple lunch menu will be provided. Reservations for the table rental can be made by placing a reservation note into the collection basket at Divine Liturgy. Checks should be made out to the Knights of Columbus. Please address any questions to Andy Bamber.

Asleep in the Lord of Mrs. Yaroslava Gudziak

Sad news of the falling asleep in the Lord of Mrs. Yaroslava Gudziak, mother of Bishop Borys Gudziak of France and countries of Benelux.

Mrs. Yaroslava Gudziak on died on Tuesday, June 12, late evening.

Parastas services was held on Thursday, June 14, Camillus, NY; the Funeral Divine Liturgy was at 4PM at St. John the Baptist Church in Syracuse. Internment took place on Saturday, June 16, at St. Andrew’s Ukrainian Cemetery in South Bound Brook, NJ.

St Michael the Archangel Church extends their most heartfelt sympathies to the family especially Bishop Borys and prayers for the blessed repose of Mrs. Yaroslava Gudziak. May she rest in peace! Vichnaya Pamiat’!

Milan Lach as Bishop of Parma Ruthenians

Pope names Bishop Milan Lach, SJ, as the Bishop of Ruthenian Eparchy of Parma

WASHINGTON—Pope Francis has appointed as Bishop of the Ruthenian Eparchy of Parma, the Most Reverend Milan Lach, SJ, who up until now served as apostolic administrator of the Eparchy.

The Byzantine Catholic Eparchy of Parma is the Catholic eparchy governing most Ruthenian Catholics in the mid-western United States. It is headquartered in Parma, Ohio.

The appointment was publicized in Washington, DC, June 1, 2018 by Archbishop Christophe Pierre, apostolic nuncio to the United States.

Bishop Lach, 44, was born in Kežmarok, Slovakia in 1973. In 1992, he was admitted to the Greek-catholic seminary in Prešov and in 1995 entered the novitiate of the Society of Jesus in Trnava, Slovakia. He continued his studies at Trnava University and also studied at the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome, where he obtained a master’s degree from the Eastern Church Sciences and later, a doctorate degree. In 2009, he began working at the Center of Spirituality East – West of Michal Lacko in Košice, Slovakia.

He was ordained a deacon of the Society of Jesus on November 11, 2000 and was ordained a priest on July 1, 2001. He was appointed auxiliary bishop of Prešov and titular bishop of Ostracine on April 19, 2013. He was ordained as auxiliary bishop of Prešov and titular bishop of Ostracine, June 1, 2013. On June 24, 2017, Pope Francis named Bishop Lach as apostolic administrator of the sede vacante (vacant see) of the Epharcy of Parma for the Ruthenians.

The Eparchy of Parma for the Ruthenians was erected February 21, 1969. Currently, the Eparchy of Parma encompasses the geographical area of Ohio (except the eastern border counties), Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota. Byzantine Catholics living in those states are members of the local Church of Parma.
