Ukrainian American Veterans will have their next meeting of Post 33 on March 17 in Classroom 2 after the 10:30 Divine Liturgy.
We have for sale borcsht, chicken cutlets, pork stew and cabbage with sausage. You can buy them in the church hall after each Divine Liturgy.
Our Sviachene —the traditional Easter parish dinner will be held on Sunday, May 5, following the Divine Liturgy. We will celebrate only one (1) Divine Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. We will be running a raffle. If you would like to donate any items to be raffled, please bring them to our church hall on Sundays before our “Sviachene” or on Sunday, May 5. Also we ask you to donate cakes for desert. We trust that all parishioners will join this parish gathering and through their presence attest to cherishing in our hearts a love for one another which builds our Parish Family.

Luncheon/ Fundraiser honoring Iryna Friz, Ukraine’s Minister of Veterans Affairs
Ukrainian American Veterans of Posts 3,14 of Connecticut and Saint Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in New Haven invite everyone to a luncheon/fundraiser honoring Iryna Friz, Ukraine’s Minister of Veterans Affairs to be held on Sunday, March 3rd, in St. Michael’s church hall. Minister Friz will arrive in Connecticut on Saturday, March 2nd to visit the Veterans Hospital in West Haven, the New Haven VETS Center in Orange, and the CT Veterans Home in Rocky Hill. She returns to Ukraine on Monday, March 4th.
On Sunday March 3rd, there will be only one (1) Divine Liturgy beginning at 10:30 a.m. The luncheon/fundraiser will begin at 12:00 Noon. in St. Michael’s church hall, 569 George St., New Haven. In addition to lunch, a brief concert will be presented. Brief remarks by Minister Friz will follow. There will be an update on the Wounded Ukrainian Soldiers Project and on the veterans` recent trip to Ukraine. All proceeds will be used to benefit Ukraine’s wouded soldiers and veterans. Tickets are $25.00 per person. Admission for youth under 18 is free.

Loaves and Fishes: Our parish is joining with other local New Haven churches to provide charitable assistance to those less fortunate persons in our community. During the next week, we are continuing our request for donations of winter clothing (especially men’s clothing) which will be donated to Loaves and Fishes, a New Haven nonprofit charitable organization whose mission is to “share God’s love by providing food, clothing, and community to our neighbors in a safe and welcoming space”. If you can spare any new or gently used winter clothing, please drop your donations off in the church hall by February 17th. Thank you.

The organizational meeting of the newly formed Facilities Maintenance Team of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church took place on Friday evening, January 18th. The schedule of work sessions was also established for the entire year so that plans can be developed for doing all the projects and arrangements made for the purchase of required supplies and equipment.

The Freedom of the Creator
God realizes his plan for the creation of the world through his Word: “Let there be light…let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters” (Gen 1:3,6). This creative Word reveals himself in Holy Scripture as the Son of God, begotten of the Father: “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation … he is before all things, and in him all things hold together” (Col 1:15-17) (Christ Our Pascha, 104).
Prosphora 2019 rescheduled

Father Iura has decided in consultation with the various groups of the parish, to reschedule the 2019 Prosphora from this Sunday to next Sunday, January 27. The weather forecast for this Sunday is said to be difficult for the party.
The Divine Liturgy for Sunday, January 20 remains at 10:30 a.m.

Awakenings —Adult Faith Formation: “Always be prepared to make a defense to any one who calls you to account for the hope that is in you,”1 Peter 3:15.
Adult Faith Formation at St Michael’s strives to create an environment and opportunities that foster adult learning, addressing the varied dimensions of Byzantine Catholic life and the spiritual life. Our Byzantine tradition is rich and we aim to deepen our understanding so as to inform the way we live.
As a result of the leadership of His Beatitude, Patriarch Sviatoslav from his letter that we heard last week, we are aiming to address the hopes of the Patriarch to generate a new appreciation for the beauty of the Byzantine tradition of faith that we have inherited. Beginning now, we will offer a word from the Catechism of Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Christ Our Pascha and a word from one of the Fathers of the Church on a weekly basis. It is our hope that these words will awaken a new hope in the promises of our Savior, Jesus Christ, for communion with the Holy Trinity.
The Freedom of the Creator: Holy Scripture begins the account of the creation of the world with these words: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen. 1:1). God was, is, and remains always “in the beginning” of everything created, and all that comes forth in time. The evangelist John writes about God as the beginning of everything: “ ‘I am the Alpha and the Omega,’ says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty” (Rev 1:8). St. Irenaeus of Lyons writes that all things came forth from the hands of God, by the Word and the Holy Spirit. (Christ Our Pascha, 103)
