Honoring Ukraine on anniversary

On Sunday, August 25, we will be having a ceremony in observance of the 28th Anniversary of Ukrainian Independence. This will take place after the 2nd Divine Liturgy beside the statue of the Blessed Virgin.

We need to keep the Ukrainian nation in our hearts and minds as we place the great nation under the protection of the Holy Pokrova.

Coffee and cake will be served in the church hall after the ceremony.

Whale Watch

The Menunkatuck Audubon Society and members of St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church (New Haven) is sponsoring a Whale Watch from Plymouth, Massachusetts.

The Field Afar: The life story of Vincent Capodanno

Not to be missed! The Field Afar: The life story of Vincent Capodanno, a Catholic Priest who received the Medal of Honor for his valor as a chaplain to the Marine Corps during some of the most harrowing battles of the Vietnam war and whose Cause for Canonization is currently open in Rome.

The St. Nicholas play at the parish

Children received Christmas gift bags prepared and distributed by Gloria Horbaty, UNA advisor and financial secretary of Branch 414 in New Haven. The children participated in the annual St. Nicholas play on December 23, 2018, that was presented by St. Michael School of Ukrainian Studies.

Iryna Friz to visit New Haven

Ukraine’s  Minister of Veterans Affairs

Ukrainian American Veterans Posts 33, 14 of Connecticut and St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in New Haven invite everyone to a luncheon/ fundraiser honoring Iryna Friz, Ukraine’s Minister of Veterans Affairs to be held on Sunday, March 3, 2019 in St. Michael’s church hall. Minister Friz will arrive in Connecticut on Saturday, March 2nd to visit the Veterans Hospital in West Haven, the New Haven VETS Center in Orange,  and the CT Veterans Home in Rocky Hill. She returns to Ukraine on Monday, March 4th.

On Sunday March 3rd, there will be only one (1) Divine Liturgy beginning at 10:30 a.m. The luncheon/fundraiser will begin at 12:00 p.m. in  St. Michael’s church hall, 569 George Street, New Haven. In addition to lunch, a brief concert will be presented. Brief remarks by Minister Friz will follow.

There will be an update on the Wounded Ukrainian Soldiers Project and on the veterans’ recent trip to Ukraine. All proceeds will be used to benefit Ukraine’s wounded soldiers and veterans. Tickets are $25.00 per person. Admission for youth under 18 is free.

We invite everyone to this special event. We ask for your support for Ukraine’s wounded heroes.

University of New Haven hosts concert commemorating Holodomor and Maidan

On Saturday, December 1, the University of New Haven hosted a very well-attended concert and public forum commemorating the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor and the fifth anniversary of the Maidan Revolution of Dignity.

The concert was the brainchild of virtuoso pianist Victor Markiw, lecturer in music at the University of New Haven, and was co-organized with Olena Lennon, adjunct professor of political science at UNH.

Parish St. Nicholas Play

You are invited to attend the St. Nicholas Play to be held on Sunday, December 23, 2018, 12 noon, in the church hall.

We worship first, and the play follows the Divine Liturgy.

The Ukrainian Ridna Skhola (School) students will be performing at this traditional event. St. Nicholas will make a presentation for all the good children.

Please support the school and bring your children/grandchildren to this event. This is a great opportunity to learn an aspect of our Faith and share life in community. We also need an audience!

(Parents can bring gifts to the kitchen for distribution later by St. Nicholas. It’s a secret for the children.)

We are a small school presently, but we are still keeping traditions.
