Ukrainian Independence Day Annual Dinner

The Greater Hartford Council of Ukrainian American Organizations and the Ukrainian National Home of Hartford, Inc. (UNHH) invite you and your family for the 26th Ukrainian Independence Day Annual Dinner (August 24, 1991) on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at 961 Wethersfield Avenue, Hartford, CT featuring performances by Zolotyj Promin Ukrainian Dance Ensemble, the Choir Lanka Halychanka and a buffet dinner after the program.

Donations: Adults: $30.00 per person, Seniors (65+): $25.00, Students (ages 13-22): $20 and children-free of charge.

Bitter Harvest in DVD

On June13, 2017, the film “Bitter Harvest” will be released on DVD in the United States! A love story, set against the backdrop of the 1932-33 Holodomor in Ukraine. Produced by prominent Ukrainian-Canadian Ihor Ihnatowycz, the film brings the tragedy of the famine-genocide to audiences around the world. Pavel Gintov will be in New Haven on June 17th.

Pianist Pavel Gintov has been described as “a poet of the keyboard” by Marty Lash of the Illinois Entertainer and as a “musical storyteller” by the Japanese publication Shikoku News.

In this concert, Pavel Gintov will perform a breathtaking program of seldom-heard works by Lyatoshynsky, Kosenko, Drozdoff, Skoryk and Bortkiewicz.

50th Ukrainian Day Festival

Dear CT State Ukrainian Day Committee Members & Clergy:

The first meeting for the 50th CT State Ukrainian Day Festival will be held on Monday, May 22, 2017 beginning at 6:30PM. His Excellency, Bishop Paul, will be in attendance.

The meeting will be hosted by:

Ansonia, Ct.

Refreshments will be served before the actual meeting.

Because of time restraints and conflicts, the committee could not schedule a final meeting of the 49th Festival and distribution of proceeds. Therefore, at this meeting we will be providing the final report for last year’s festival, as well as voting and presenting the distributions.

We hope that everyone can make this very important meeting. Everybody is welcome to attend, so please invite others from your parish to join for this meeting especially those who contributed to last year’s festival by volunteering that day and/or preparing food for the event. New members and ideas are always welcome.

Serhiy Zhadan in New Haven

 

On Thursday, April 20th at 4 pm, New Haven will have a visit by the Ukrainian poet and novelist Serhiy Zhadan.

There will be a poetry reading in Ukrainian and English, then a conversation (most likely in English and Russian), followed by a reception.

Location: seminar room of Horchow Hall, 55 Hillhouse Avenue, New Haven.

Bitter Harvest to shown

On Sunday, March 19th, there are 2 FREE showings of the recent film, “Bitter Harvest” on the Holodomor at St Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church Hall (569 George Street, New Haven, CT) at 12:30 and again at 2:30pm.
Some Ukrainian food will be for sale before the 12:30 showing of the film.
 
The film, “Bitter Harvest,” is a love story set in the time of Ukraine’s Holodomor (1932-33). It is directed by George Mendeluk. Visit: bitterharvestfilm.com
