This week vigil light is offered by Katia and Andrew Bamber in memory of Wasylyna and Michael Yukash.

The Panakhyda Service at the Gravesites will take place today, Sunday, April 16, at 1:00 pm at St. Lawrence Cemetery. On Saturday we were at All Saints Cemetery. Please call the rectory office for appointment.

The traditional Easter parish “SVIACHENE” will be held on April 23, following the Divine Liturgy. We will celebrate only one (1) Divine Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. We will be running a raffle. If you would like to donate any items to be raffled, please bring them to our church hall on Sundays before our “Sviachene” or on Sunday, April 23. Tickets are $30.00 for adults, $10.00 for youth from 12 to 18. Free for altar boys, and under 12. Also we ask you to donate cakes for desert. We trust that all parishioners will join this parish gathering and through their presence attest to cherishing in our hearts a love for one another which builds our PARISH FAMILY. We will not sell tickets at the door.

We will be making pyrohy (varenyky, pierogi) on May 13, We need your help and Friday, May 12 to peel potatoes and Saturday, May 13, to make Pyrohy. Please come and help.

Tantsi/Ukrainian Folk Dancing for older kids, 6 and up, with Stephanie Tomaszewsky, instructor and in partnership with Artistic Director Orlando Pagan. The lessons will be every Friday at 6:00 p.m. Any questions will be answered that night. Please contact Halia Lodynsky by text if you have any questions at (203) 494-6278.

PARISH COFFEE HOUR: Dear parishioners and guests, after each Divine Liturgy, a social hour with coffee and hard rolls and assorted snacks are available in the church hall. Please feel free to join us.

FOOD DONATIONS: A container is in our church vestibule for non-perishable food. Please give generously new items within the expiration date. This items will be given out to the poor in our community. Thank you for your generosity and support.

Panel discussion on Ukraine’s Reconstruction

There’s an upcoming panel on Ukraine’s Reconstruction, which is of high interest to the local Ukrainian community. The event will explore the challenges that Ukraine will encounter in its reconstruction and what role the US and EU should play.

The event will feature a discussion moderated by the Jackson School’s Marnix Amand with Ambassador John Herbst, the former US Ambassador to Ukraine, and Vladyslav Rashkovan, an IMF Board Member and the former Deputy Governor of Ukraine’s Central Bank. The event will take place at 6:00 PM on Monday, April 17th in Horchow Hall (55 Hillhouse Ave). More information about the event and speakers is available here, and a flyer is attached.

The 18th annual Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by the UNA Branch 414-New Haven, will be held on Sunday, April 2, at 12:00 noon, on church grounds. It is open to young members of UNA, Ridna Shkola students and Ukrainian Youth of New Haven area. Participants are reminded to bring a basket for collecting eggs. St. Michael’s Ukrainian Easter Bazaar will be on Sunday, April 2nd from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm. You can buy Easter baskets, Ukrainian jewelry, candles, souvenirs, Easter cards, embroidery clothes, pastries, homemade food, Egg decorating supplies, etc. For more information call Oksana 347-523-1226.

TODAY, Sunday, March 19, Fr. Jonathan Kalisch, O.P. will have a Mission in our Parish. He is going to be in confessional during the Divine Liturgy at 9:00 a.m. at 10:30 a.m.

The remaining SOROKOUSTY will be celebrated in All Souls’ Saturday is May 27. Please take a book found at the entrance of the church, fill it out, place it in envelope, and drop it in the collection basket. Let us remember all our loved ones who have gone to their heavenly reward. Eternal Memory!

Bring your children and grandchildren to learn their beautiful heritage. Free to parish youth and Ridna Shkola students. Charge for class is $10 to others. This year we plan to offer Ukrainian dance instruction under the director of Mr. Orlando Pagan for children 7 years and older. Details to follow. Deacon Daniel Galadza appointed as consultor at the Holy See

Congratulations to Deacon Daniel Galadza!

Today, the Holy See made the following announcement regarding the Eastern Churches office:

The Holy Father has appointed the following as consultors of the Special Commission for the Liturgy of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches: the Reverends András Dobos, rector of the Greek-Catholic Seminary of Nyíregyháza, Hungary; Vartan Kirakos Kazanjian, parish priest of Saint John Chrysostom of the Armenian Catholics in Istanbul, Turkey; Jacob Thekeparampil, director of the Saint Ephrem Ecumenic Research Institute, India; Daniel Galadza, professor of Byzantine liturgy at the Pontifical Oriental Institute, Rome, Italy.

Daniel’s father and uncle are Ukrainian Catholic priests in Canada. The good deacon is teaching in Rome.

A conversation with Ukrainian women held prisoners

This past week, the New Haven Register featured information about an upcoming Branford talk featuring two Ukrainian women who had been imprisoned by the Russians. Lyudmila Huseynova and Anna Olsen will share their captivity experiences. Iryna Solomko Bonenberger who is an award-winning Ukrainian journalist, now an American citizen and correspondent for Ukrainian Service of Voice of America will lead the conversation.

The talk will take place this Monday, March 6th at 6pm in the Blackstone Library Auditorium, 758 Main Street, Branford.

Fr. Iura celebrates 65

Today, we celebrated Father Iura’s 65th birthday. Actually, his birthday was yesterday.
